Liberty's® patented distributed generation powertrain, "Quantum Drive," a compact two-stage helical distributed configuration, offers a breakthrough in trouble-free powertrain operation.
This moves the technology well beyond the vulnerabilities found in standard three-stage planetary gearboxes typically used in today's multi-megawatt wind turbines. Through its load-distributing, multiple-load path design, from the rotor main shaft to the four high-speed output shafts to the generators, torque loads are split by a factor that is four times greater than standard gearboxes. Liberty also employs preloaded main bearings to absorb thrust loads, preventing damage, minimizing downtime and extending turbine life. Unlike standard drivetrains, there are no main shaft misalignment problems since this is set through two robust main roller bearings.
To further ease serviceability and reduce long-term operating costs, Liberty's high-speed pinion gear is in "cartridge" form and can be easily replaced with the onboard hoist without removal of the gearbox. Multiple inspection ports simplify routine monitoring by easy visual observation in addition to an advanced gearbox health monitoring system.
